The black caiman study has run continuously since 2005 and has produced seven peer-reviewed papers. Turtle head-starting began here in 2011 and is now part of the FAO-led Sustainable Wildlife Management Programme.

The Yupukari Public Library brought the village its first reading collection, computers and internet. Secondary-school qualifiers went from one or two a year to more than half.

A community-owned lodge, staffed by villagers, sustains the research, library and craft work.

Wabbani sustains Macushi craft by linking it to contemporary uses — including woven panels in the dining room at Four Points by Sheraton Georgetown.
